Onigiri Joe started with a trip to Japan.

After spending months traveling throughout the country, our founder became enamored with onigiri: simple, comforting, and seemingly everywhere. What stood out was how something so uncomplicated could be so satisfying.

That fascination turned into a mission to learn the craft. He took courses and worked with experienced chefs to understand the details behind great onigiri, from preparing and seasoning the rice to shaping, fillings, and technique.

He returned to New York with an idea: bring that same love for onigiri to NYC, while giving it a distinctly New York spin.

Onigiri Joe combines Japanese inspiration and technique with classic and unexpected flavors, alongside matcha and hojicha, all designed for an easy, everyday meal.
